Photoshop

Photoshop

This week we were introduced to the Apple Mac's and Photoshop. As i studied media last year, i had a slight idea on how to use photoshop, but this week helped me learn how to use it in the easiest and most effective way. Most of the tools on photoshop, i had no idea what they were or how to use them, but now i vaguely know how to use them to create a good manipulated image.

The photos below are a few examples of what i did in photoshop. We started by taking photos in pairs (Megan and I), with different composition ideas in mind. We went to different places around the college and bedford river bank in order to get a variety of images. The most effective photos i think were taken in the TV room with the black curtain and the red head light. After we had taken our photos, we were told to start by cropping our images to 'trial and error' with compositions going by the 'rule of thirds'.

The photos with the black background were taken in the TV room where there are black, green and white curtains.
I decided to take my photos with the black curtain as the background as i thought it would look better and more professional. The top images of each pair of photos is the original and the bottom one is the edited.
As we can see the edited version of each pair is better than the original photo as the rule of thirds has been used in a more interesting way. For example, the photos to the left are examples of  a before and after photo.
I decided to crop this photo in this style as i really liked the idea of the negative space to the left of Megan, and how part of her body blends into the back ground.
I have also used colouring tools such as colour balance and hue/ saturation in order to make her less orange, as with the next two photos below.

This first image is the original of myself. I have edited it by using a colour balance and hue/ saturation tool in order to make myself less orange/ tanned and to blend myself more into the back drop which i think creates a ghostly feel to the final image.

I have edited this photo further by using a clone tool, as shown below.

For this photo i have used a clone tool which copies my image and makes it lighter which gives my edited image a ghostly look and feel. One thing i really like about this edited photo is how my skin becomes brighter from the last image to the first. With this image, i have flipped it round so rather than being on the left side, as shown in the original image, i am now on the right, i made this decision because the overall final image had a better look and feel to it this way. I am really happy with this image because of this.

This photo was taken by Megan. One of the objectives we had was to take a photo in a lift. This photo was actually taken  by accident, and Megan hadn't realised that she had taken it, but when we looked at all the photographs we had taken, this one was one of our favorites and it looked as if it was taken purposely.

I have edited it by using the cropping tool on photoshop, and using the colour and hue/ saturation tool taken out some of the yellow and pink shades from the original image. I really like this ghost like feel about my edited images, i think it makes them look professional and unique,

I really like this original photo as it is, but i think i have made it more interesting by editing it. This shot was taken multiple times in order to get the best photo of Megan jumping.
To edit this photo, i have cropped it so it looks as if Megan is to the left of the image. At first i did crop it so she was to the right, but because of the way she is facing, it looked wrong so i changed it to the left.
Rather than taking out colours as i have done in my previous edited photographs, i have added a pink hue to this image to make it look brighter and more like a summers day. I have also used a cover up tool to remove the litter that was in the background of the original photo to make the overall image cleaner and i wanted to add the use of this cover up tool which would otherwise be used on closeup photos of faces to remove e.g. a spot on a face, so rather than using it for that as everyone usually does, i used it in a more effective way.
